The Firdous Community Garden
Welcome to the Firdous Community Garden & Farm
Growing Food. Cultivating Faith. Nurturing Future Stewards.
The Firdous Community Garden & Farm at Mohammed Schools of Atlanta is a vibrant, student-powered learning space rooted in faith, science, and sustainability.
Certified Naturally Grown and registered with the USDA, our garden spans over 11,000 square feet and includes:
· 3 outdoor classrooms
· 2 hoop houses
· 2 orchards
· 30+ garden beds
· 2 dedicated herb gardens
Our irrigation systems and structural designs are engineered in partnership with local experts focused on conservation and natural resource protection. Alhamdulillah for this growing blessing.
Faith-Based Roots. Science-Backed Practices.
Our garden journey began with inspiration from How to Eat to Live by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and is continually nurtured by the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him):
“If a person plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, animal, or person eats from it, it is considered a charitable gift (Sadaqah) for them.” — Bukhari & Muslim
A Living Classroom
The Firdous Garden is not just a growing space — it’s a living, breathing classroom.
Garden education is a core part of our school curriculum.
Every week:
· Grades K–8 students plant, care for, and harvest produce alongside their science teachers.
· Middle school students (Grades 5–8) harvest food for our Farm-to-Cafeteria program.
· High school students use the garden in their science labs, culinary classes, and for real-world outdoor learning.
Students gain hands-on experience in:
· Growing vegetables, fruits, and herbs
· Composting and soil care
· Beekeeping and butterfly raising
· Seed saving and foraging
· Cooking and preparing food from the garden
Global Connections, Local Impact
Our love for the land has crossed continents.
We've shared seeds with the Village of Gunjur, Gambia, connecting our scholars to the global Muslim community and reinforcing their roles as global growers and earth stewards.
Community-Led. Year-Round.
The Firdous Garden is a community effort, led by Sister Terri Ali and supported by dedicated parents, students, teachers, and neighbors. Together, we provide the labor and love needed to keep the garden growing all year long.
Our Mission Is Simple:
1. Grow and eat clean, fresh food to combat the illnesses and diseases linked to urban living.
2. Develop a STEM and agriculture-based curriculum rooted in permaculture, sustainability, and organic practices.
3. Instill the role of Khalifah (stewardship) in our youth — cultivating conscious caretakers of the Earth for the pleasure of Allah.
